I’m not exactly a master woodworker… but that’s what makes this project so much fun! Last year I built a balcony table out of scrap wood, and it turned out surprisingly good. This time I decided to level up: I bought proper lumber, fired up my router, and set out to build a matching coffee table with hidden storage under the lid.

From designing the whole thing in Blender, to struggling (and finally succeeding!) with mortise and tenon joints, to 3D printing my own router jig when nothing else worked — I definitely learned a lot along the way. There were moments of frustration, plenty of sawdust, and even a few near-disasters… but in the end, the results speak for themselves.

If you’re into DIY projects, beginner woodworking, or just want to see someone figure things out the hard way, you’ll probably get a kick out of this build. Plus, I added some cool finishing touches like a drip rail, brass hinges, and gas struts to make sure this table isn’t just functional—it’s unique.

Stick around to the end to see it sitting next to last year’s balcony table build. Not bad for a “non-woodworker,” right?
